webNetwork 5.4 Released

Stoneware, Inc. is excited to announce the release of webNetwork version 5.4. The new features and enhancements included in 5.4 has allowed Stoneware to redefine web desktop virtualization and its critical role in the shift from client-server to private cloud computing.
This document will provide readers with an overview of some of the new features and services that are available in the 5.4 release.

webOS – Stoneware’s webOS presents a virtual web desktop interface to users that access the webNetwork system. webOS is designed to run inside the user’s web browser and can be accessed from anywhere the user has an Internet connection.

Zoho Online Office Integration – Allows organizations to control licensing costs by utilizing Zoho’s online Office applications while leaving their documents on their own secured network storage.

  • Access Zoho’s Writer, Sheet, and Show from the Stoneware webOS desktop.
  • Integrates Stoneware’s File Services with Zoho applications allowing organizations to store all documents on local area network storage.
  • Reduce traditional office licensing costs by switching casual users to Zoho online applications which are accessible from anywhere, using any device.

Thin Applications – webNetwork now integrates application streaming from vendors like VMWare, Novell, Microsoft, etc.

  • Deploy thin applications via Stoneware’s webOS desktop with all your other web, Windows, and hosted applications.
  • Control access to thin applications based on a user’s organizational role.
  • Integrated directly with Stoneware’s File Services, allowing users to select any document from their file system interface and edit with a thin application.

Form Services 2.0 – Build, secure, and deploy web forms in just a matter of minutes. With Stoneware’s Form Services, organizations can build web forms for collecting data, gathering user feedback, account registration, system record modifications, etc.

  • Form Builder is a web-based tool for the creation and deployment of web forms.
  • Store form data in any existing ODBC/JDBC database or leverage Stoneware’s Form Warehouse.
  • Integrates with Stoneware’s Report Services enabling organizations to easily collect and report on critical business information.

File Services – Stoneware’s web-enabled file system now integrates published, streamed, and hosted applications.

  • Live Edit allows users to easily edit documents from anywhere with “reverse publishing” technology and Microsoft Terminal Server.
  • Live Zoho Edit allows users to edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations stored on their network home drives with Zoho’s Online Office applications.
  • Thin Edit allows users to edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with published thin applications.

Folder Monitor 5.4 – Folder Monitor is designed to scan local file system directories and move their contents to a backend network storage.

  • User and administrative configuration controls.
  • Folder Monitor now supports the scanning of subdirectories on the local workstation.
  • Supports the dynamic appending of source directories to the network storage location.

webOS for the iPhone and iTouch – Native webOS interface for the iPhone and iTouch, providing access to all webNetwork private cloud resources.

  • Provides single sign-on from the iPhone or iTouch to the webNetwork system.
  • Cover-flow interface makes it easy for the end user to easily navigate and access webNetwork resources.
  • Supports applications such as teamPages, Report Services, Form Services 2.0, and more.

webMenus – Windows XP desktop agent that provides seamless system tray access into webNetwork’s private cloud services.

  • Access to all published web, Windows, and hosted applications from the workstation’s system tray
  • Seamless directory-based authentication from the workstation into the webNetwork system
  • Static User Support – creates a temporary local account for users while accessing the webNetwork system from the local desktop. Perfect for organizations that wish to control access to Windows Home desktops using Active Directory credentials.
  • Dynamic User Support – creates a local workstation account that will remain on the workstation until the administrator directs webNetwork to remove the local account. Designed for administrators who wish to simplify support for remote office and mobile users.
